Screenwriter Hired for 50 Shades of Gray Movie

You can almost hear the hundreds of thousands of women orgasming to the vibrations of my keyboard typing the words 50 Shades of Grey- then again when they see the news that brings the film adaptation of their favorite romance novel closer to being a reality. You are not dreaming ladies, a writer has been hired to pen the script for 50 SHADES OF GREY and the news was revealed on E.L. James’ Twitter which then directed to a link on Facebook that then gave everyone the downlow on who was hired to write the script- who is none other than Kelly Marcel.

Now you might be asking yourself, “Who is Kelly Marcel?” to which I would respond by telling you that her past credits include the defunct TV Show Terra Nova (not a vote of confidence) and a product currently in production SAVING MR. BANKS- a film starring Tom Hanks, Colin Farrell and Emma Thompson from Disney that chronicles how the film MARY POPPINS came to be.

Here’s a quote from the producers, Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti:

“Kelly’s work demonstrates her flawless structural technique and passionate commitment to emotion, humor and depth of character which is particularly visible in the celebrated screenplay for the upcoming Saving Mr. Banks,” said De Luca. “We were all taken with the depth and passion of Kelley’s engagement with the characters and world E L James has created and we knew she was the right person to augment our Fifty Shades family,” added Brunetti.

The news brings the 50 Shades adaption one step closer to the big screen, but the big questions still remain- who will direct and who will star- both very big question marks in determining if this will indeed see the light of day. I wouldn’t worry too much though; given the popularity of the books and Hollywood’s lust for making money, this is going to see theaters eventually and with a very pretty cast to boot I’m sure. Start the debate fans- does Marcel peak your interest? Is she the right person for the job? Who do you think will direct? Who is your ideal cast? Will the studio try to sex it down to get a PG-13 rating? Will an R rating do the film justice or should they swing for the fences?
